Play therapy

Tweens and teens
(ages 11-18)

Play is a language children understand. As children grow and develop, they learn how to deal with and verbalize their life experiences. Play is a vital part of that development process. Play therapy is a form of therapy that gives children an opportunity to express feelings, share experiences and work through problems in a way that comes naturally to them. In play therapy, our counselors use their observations to assess a child’s development, diagnose a problem, such as anxiety or depression, and guide the child–through play–in a way that helps the child learn, grow and heal.
Teenage years are a tough time in a child’s life when transitioning to adulthood. During this time, it is important that an adolescent feel respected, validated and understood. In fact, teenagers today are experiencing overwhelming pressures. Whether it is struggling with social issues, dealing with school-related issues, experiencing changes in family dynamics or relationships, or needing to find better ways to communicate with others, Lakeshore Counseling Center can provide the services and environment needed to help work towards positive solutions.
